Consider UNIX UFS with 4 KB blocks. In an inode, suppose there are 2048 entries in the "direct block" pointing to at most 2048 data blocks. There is also an entry for each of "single indirect", "double indirect", and "triple indirect", pointing to an indirect node with 2048 entries for data blocks or recursively indirect nodes.
